Tanzim Hasan Sakib, who recently made his One Day International (ODI) debut for Bangladesh against India in the Asia Cup 2023, is in hot waters as his old Facebook posts with misogynistic captions have resurfaced again.
Hasan got off to a dream start as the 20-year-old got the wicket of India’s Rohit Sharma on his fourth international ball and also guided his side to a victory with his heroics in the last over.
What seemed to be a bright start for the right-arm pacer soon turned to a feeling of deride as his old misogynistic social media posts came to light by the women’s rights activist and feminist.
"If the wife works, the husband's rights are not ensured," Tanzim posted on Facebook last year. "If the wife works, the child's rights are not ensured. If the wife works, her elegance is damaged.
"If the wife works, the family is ruined. If the wife works, the veil is ruined. If the wife works, society is ruined."
In another post, Tanzim said that a child won’t have a "modest" mother if a man marries "a woman who is accustomed to free mixing with her male friends in a university.”
"I feel sorry for you that you don't consider your mother a normal human being," she added.
Tanzim’s posts were pointed out by feminist Jannatun Nayeem Prity as she also stated that the jerseys the Bangladesh cricket team wore were made by women.
The matter was soon noticed by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) who said that they were investigating the matter.
"The issue came to our attention. We are looking into the matter," BCB’s cricket operations chief Jalal Yunus told AFP.
It must be noted that Women contribute to a major part of economic growth in Bangladesh as they have formed a massive workforce in the garment sector of the country.
